The Beginning
1992

In 1992, Robert Berman created wool dreadlocks, glued them into a baseball cap, wore the cap out to a bar on Long Beach Island, NJ, and sold it off his head for $20 and a beer. That began Rasta Imposta!

All In The Family
1995
Timeline Image

Robert, along with the combined skills of his wife Tina and sister Jodi, began expanding the novelty hat business adding costumes to the product line. Working out of their father's warehouse, they quickly outgrew the space and eventually took over the entire building, filling it with hats and costumes.

Getting Funky
1999

Rasta Imposta introduces Big Daddy Bob’s Funky Formal Wear featuring the Purple and Cheetah and Red and Zebra ensembles. This creative twist on costuming revolutionized and redefined how grown-ups everywhere dress for Halloween.

It’s Bananas!
2001

Rasta Imposta introduced their proprietary "easy to wear" foam costume line with the introduction of their Copyrighted Yellow Banana. New creations like hot dogs, pizza slices, tacos, sharks, and penguins, earn the company worldwide recognition for their hilarious designs.

Licensed to Thrill

A New Era
2025

After 33 years as Rasta Imposta, the partners rebranded to Imposta Costumes to reflect the broad and diverse range of costumes, accessories, and licenses they now offer. This new name represents the company's evolution and will continue to grow with them over the next 30 years.
